Remembering Why We Sweat and Cry Salt Water: Connecting Our Ocean of Struggles

The late Dr Teresia Teaiwa inspired us to reimagine our ocean as an OCEANIC continent, an ocean continent that is the source of our poetry, our life-force, our mana and mauri.

She reminds us of the privilege to call this ocean our home. A privilege because our ancestors voyaged bravely and intelligently into the unknown. It is our home because our ancestors paid scrupulous attention to our environment, paid it respect knowing that our lives all depend on it.

But we have not been the only ones to imagine this oceanic continent. Empires saw this great ocean and turned it into their own political images, their conquests and theatres of war.

This webinar is an intergenerational story-telling event: between those trail blazers that have paved the way for young people (our ancestors); reconnecting our ocean of struggles from different places and spaces through our art forms of storytelling and challenges us to remember.

Why we sweat and cry salt, a reminder that the ocean is in our blood and why we are all called to act as its guardians.
